Robert L. Blackwell, DDS

Dr. Robert L. Blackwell received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign in 1979. In 1983, he earned his dental degree from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry, and in 1984 he completed a General Practice Residency at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.

He maintained a full-time private general dentistry practice for 25 years and continues to practice part-time. He started teaching at Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in 1991 and began teaching full-time in 2008. Throughout his career, Dr. Blackwell has given more than 1000 national and international lectures on implant dentistry and dental materials topics.

He has served as a KOL for multiple implant manufacturers. Dr. Blackwell is a member of the American Dental Association, the International College of Dentists, the American Dental Education Association, and the Academy of Osseointegration. As a Clinical Professor and the Chair of the Department of Surgical Sciences and Community Care at the SIU School of Dental Medicine, he is keenly involved in mentoring junior faculty in their professional development and research.
