Rafe Hanahan

Rafe Hanahan was most recently a dental lab M&A, strategy, and sales executive at Leixir Dental Lab Group, one of the largest dental lab networks in the U.S. Prior to becoming a dental executive, Rafe was a healthcare investment banker and private equity investor for over 20 years.

Rafe began his career in 1999 as an analyst within the Healthcare investment banking team at Bear Stearns & Co. in New York City. After completing his analyst program at Bear Stearns, Rafe joined Trivest Partners (2001-2004), a middle-market buyout firm focused on acquiring family and founder-owned businesses. While at Trivest, Rafe spent considerable time acquiring and working with businesses in the healthcare services, business and industrial services, and consumer products sectors.

In 2006, Rafe joined RBC Capital Markets (based in San Francisco) where he helped grow the healthcare investment banking team from roughly 10 teammates and $10 million in revenue to over 40 teammates and $100 million in revenue. During that time, Rafe specialized in advising large-cap, and emerging medical device companies on M&A transactions and debt and equity financings. In 2015, Rafe joined Cain Brothers, a boutique healthcare M&A firm where he co-founded the medical technology practice and focused on buy and sell-side M&A engagements. Rafe’s last engagement at Cain was the sell-side of Leixir Dental Lab Group to Comvest Partners (April 2021), where he ultimately transitioned from investment banking to an operating role (Chief Strategy Officer) at Leixir. Throughout his banking career, Rafe specialized in the following sectors: medical device contract manufacturing, dental products, dental labs, orthopedic products, cardiovascular and endovascular technologies, oncology, and robotic-assisted surgery (RAS).

Rafe earned a B.S. from the University of Oregon with a major in Finance and a minor in Economics, as well as an MBA from Emory University with an emphasis on Finance and Leadership. Rafe resides in Orinda, CA, is married and has three young daughters. In his spare time, Rafe enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, mountain biking, and snowboarding.
